I guess when you bring kids together from different schools that might not ever been around each other before all HAYALS break loose. Well this is what happened when I was in "Middle School" back then they called it Jr High...
I came from a school that was fairly mixed but other schools in my county wasn't... Although my Elementary was mostly Black Students (cause of the zoning and majority of all the students live on the other side of the tracks) "They call it Across the Hill"...
It was thought 3 other Elementary school that didn't have a single Black child there..
I remember this day because we were called Nigger from left and right. Fights happened all day that day.. A fight even happened in my Homeroom.. It was the Chastain Brothers (i Believe)..
It started one morning we all hung out in the court yard before the Bell rings to start school.. "I HATE YOU NIGGER'S" then all of a sudden I saw everyone fighting... Then the teachers and stuff tried breaking things up. I go into the school cause I didn't want any part of it.. I was trying to get a education lol..
As I got near the door I saw my cousins stomping this guy so bad.. He looked a darn mess when they broke it up..
They ended up getting suspended.. All parties did..
Gets into the class room about to get the day started... One of the white guy's girl friend was talking about what happened and had a nerve to turn around and call me a Nigger.. I ignored her.. I don't remember what had happened but I know my teacher had to go out into the hall to talk to the principal.. By this time EPD had came to control the halls... The girl stands up once again and said.. Nigger you hear me talking to you.. Again I just looked at her.. By this time the everyone in class heard her.. So I saw one of the other students yank her from the back and the other black girl in class started beating her.. Then the boom here is another fight... In that class room it was only 6 blacks and the rest was white.. It was only 2 of us that were black girls.. The whole class was fighting except me... I had anger issues and I tried not to. I had already gotten into a fight the 1st of the school year and I couldn't get into trouble again.. Moms would have killed me. The whole class got into trouble.. I was the only one who didn't because i never left my seat...
That day it was a total of 6 fights... It all had to do with race.. SMH.. A set of brother's made the whole school on edge but in the end.. The ones they called Nigger's got the sweetest revenge.. Well me anyway.. Years later.. The girl that kept on calling me Nigger... She ended up marrying a Black Man (a friend of mine) and once she came into my job with her younger daughter back then and her daughter said.. Mommie, I wish she was my mother.. She is so pretty.. :) I felt like that was God's way of paying her back for all that mess she said back then...

I don't know why but while reading this, I pictured you being like Celie in "The Color Purple" when the fight broke out in the juke joint and she was just sitting there looking around. LOL

Where I lived at, there was a distinction--middle school (was like 5th-7th), junior high (8th-9th) and high school (10-12th). About the time I was entering into high school, they changed it, so that middle school was just 5th-6th, junior high was 7th-8th, and high school was 9th-12th. So I only spent one year at the junior high school because by that time, the 9th grade had gotten moved over to the high school.
Yeah race relations were bad at my school, too. Things were so bad that the school prom was considered "the black prom" and the white people would have their own private, separate prom. There was so much controversy when one black couple found out where the white prom was and decided to attend it.
At the time when I attended, the McComb High School District was primarily white. Now, it's primarily black with the majority of the white students attending private schools.
Funny how things change.
Great way to show self-control. I know I would probably have lost it, if it was me! The irony of that girl marrying a black man is too funny!

Ahh yes, the race riot. I seem to remember one of those at Chilton County High School when I was a student. I got hit with one of those metal folding chairs.
